Objective
Assessment of Tonal and
Impulsive Noise
Perception of sound as
melodic or just-a-noise depends on the listener; a lover of Mozart
and Bach may feel that the heavy metal music at an Iron Maiden
concert is noise. Conversely, very few die-hard rock fans would find
themselves at a classical music concert. The passionate petrol-head
is ok with a passing group of motorbikes; the local residents
perhaps rather not. In short, what is noise and what is sound
depends very much on the individual. The XL2 Sound Level Meter can
measure for the objective assessment of noise according to the ISO
1996 standard.
Despite the varying perceptions of individuals, there is a
general measure of noise and annoyance that assists in resolving
disputes and limits; the Rating Level Lr. This
essentially consists of the time-equivalent continuous sound level
LAeq and adds penalties for prominent tones or impulses
that could cause increased annoyance.

Complete
Event Monitoring with the XL2 Sound Level
Meter
Open air music events are especially popular in summer. A
good sound should be balanced but not too loud, to avoid possible
hearing damage in the audience and not disturb the neighbors. The
XL2 Sound Level Meter offers the professional measuring solution for
live sound events. With the recently-introduced enhancements to the
Projector PRO software and the NoiseScout platform, the live sound
levels can be seen easily at the Front of House and by the concert
organizer, the audience and neighbors alike.
The XL2 Sound Level Meter is ideal for monitoring sound levels at
events according to standards. Before the event, the position in the
audience area that will receive the highest sound levels can be
quickly found, and the level difference to the measuring position
determined. This means that the FOH technician can have the maximum
sound pressure level in the entire public area under control at all
times.

sounds that are in sync with what is happening on the
