NTi Audio releases the PC Projector software for the handheld XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer. The XL2 Projector displays the instruments screen in real-time via the USB connection to the PC. The virtual keyboard enables the user to control the instrument with mouse clicks from the PC. The Projector software is free of charge and ready for download for all XL2 customers at www.nti-audio.com/XL2.

The XL2 Projector is an easy to install PC software. It connects the instrument via the USB interface and shows the complete XL2 display content in real time on the computer. The displayed virtual projector keypad allows execution of all XL2 operations with the computer mouse.

"The versatility of the XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer, combined with the simplicity of use, perfectly tailor the XL2 instrument for any educational application in audio or acoustics. The XL2 projector ideally complements the analyzer capabilities and promotes the set to be an indispensable tool for university or college classes", highlights Philipp Schwizer, CEO of NTi-Audio AG.

XL2 Projector warns at exceeding Sound Levels
The XL2 Sound Level Meter includes a limit menu to preset the maximum permitted sound level according local regulations e.g. applicable for live sound events. In case such limits are exceeded, the XL2 Projector background color on the computer turns its colors from green to yellow or red according to the programmed limits. "This is a very strong advantage for the Live Sound engineers as they now can monitor the loudness of their mix even from meters away with no external hardware", explains Philipp Schwizer further.

External SPL Stack Light shows high Sound Levels
All XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer offer a pre-installed digital I/O interface for the control of external peripherals based on preset sound level limits. The new Digital I/O Adapter connects directly to the XL2. It controls external peripherals such as an SPL Stack Light showing exceeding sound levels in bright red color to the sound engineer as well as to the attending audience. The new accessories "Digital I/O Adapter" for building your own "SPL Stack Light" is available now.

IAAF World Championship Stadium commissioned with XL2 Daegu, South Korea. Sovico opts for the handheld XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer to commission the new announcement system in the Daegu stadium, hosting the Athletics World Championships 2011. The polarity, sound level and speech intelligibility functions of the XL2 simplified and speeded up the system verification.

Sovico commissioned with the XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer the new announcement system in the Daegu stadium. First all audio signal lines have been measured for noise and signal loss. Then the installed line arrays have been tested for polarities at the different areas in the 66.000 seats stadium. The Minirator MR-PRO served as signal generator providing the dedicated test signal directly into the main board. The detailed polarity measurement in octave band resolution from 125 Hz to 8 kHz displayed the individual polarity of woofers, midrange and higher frequency speakers at one glance. Next the speaker levels have been set to a uniform sound level of 85 dBA and the frequency response optimized.

Speech Intelligibility Passed
For the speech intelligibility measurement of the evacuation system the NTi Audio TalkBox generated the test signal directly into the speaker’s microphone. Thus the complete signal chain could be verified at all accessible areas throughout the stadium. The XL2 Analyzer measured a satisfactory speech intelligibility in the range of 0.60 – 0.70 STI, in average 0.66 STI. These reading confirmed the superior quality of the installed announcement system.

XL2 reduced Commissioning Time
Gun Chang Moon, acoustic engineer of Sovico, summarized the project: "We had to take more than 200 STI-PA measurements and 250 polarity tests of speakers. With the help of the XL2 Analyzer the measurements could be completed fast and accurate. The automatically generated test reports simplified the detailed documentation. The handheld XL2 is the dedicated sound level meter and acoustic analyzer for such installation projects."

The IAAF (=International Association of Athletics Federations) assigned Daegu, South Korea, to host the World Championships 2011. Thus the Korean AV-installer Sovico inspected the Daegu Stadium three years ago and verified the technical requirements for a new safety and announcement system for this worldwide broadcasted event. Sovico provided and installed the new varriale line arrary system for improved speech intelligibility. In the last weeks the engineers Moon and Han commissioned the evacuation system together the American specialists SIA Acoustics and WHJW. The IAAF World Championship are held on 27 August – 4 September 2011.

Many thanks to Sang Young Han and Gun Chang Moon of Sovico for this application report.
